Over the weekend of December 2-3, 2017, Fr. Schultze visited the Franciscan University of Stuebenville and met with Rev. Gregory Plow, T.O.R., Director of the Priestly Discernment Program and with students in the program to encourage them in their discernment process. This Priestly Discernment Program has nurtured the vocations of over 275 priests since the early 1980s, including some alumni and current seminarians of St. Patrick's.
This visit is part of Fr. Schultze's larger commitment as President-Rector to encourage vocations to the priesthood. Fr. Schultze is also working actively with the Knights of Columbus in California to develop a "Call to Serve" program in which each Knight pledges to approach at least one man during the year to consider a vocation to the priesthood. Fr. Schultze states: "I have come to recognize the importance of simply planting the seed of a vocation to the priesthood in the minds of Catholic men. Men need to be asked."
